Slip Trip and Fall
If a property owner fails to maintain a safe property they can be help responsible for negligence. Slip and fall accidents typically occur when unsafe conditions cause a person to slip or trip and fall. They can occur indoors or outdoors but the owner is responsible for safe conditions either way.
Common causes:
- Failure to install curbing properly and securely
- Failure to properly secure carpeting or rugs
- Failure to clean floors properly in the event product has been spilled, or when there is a roof or equipment leak
- Failure to put up warning signs of slippery floors or change in elevation
- Failure to install or maintain adequate lighting in stairwells, or failure to have hand rails
- Failure to fix broken railings, screens or other safety features
- Failure to keep aisles clear or allowing merchandise on shelves to stick out into the aisle
- Failure to maintain elevators allowing them to mislevel creating a tripping hazard
